Today we welcomed Christiana Figueres, Executive Director of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), to our Edinburgh headquarters.
Ms. Figueres is an internationally recognised leader in the global climate change field and recently directed the successful Conference of Parties (COP) in Paris. The conference culminated in the adoption by 195 countries of the first universal global climate deal.
She spent time with our Board before enjoying a tour of our office where she was introduced to GIB staff.
Ms. Figueres said:
The UK Green Investment Bank is an excellent example of the financial infrastructure we must build across the world to catalyse ever-rising investment flows towards climate-friendly assets. GIB has been instrumental in assisting Scotland become a leader in clean, renewable energy.
As countries look to implement their climate action plans under the new Paris Agreement while stepping up to the Sustainable Development Goals, finance is going to be key to the scale and urgency of what will be achieved.
Organisations like GIB represent models and delivery systems well worth considering for fast tracking that better future that is now unquestionably underway everywhere.
